Jill Barklem had a keen interest in Natural history and was very interested in rural customs and crafts.   For Five years she researched and studied her subject before she began writing her first story.  
It was in 1980 when the first book “Spring Story” appeared and this was quickly followed by “Summer Story”, “Autumn Story” and “Winter Story”.   The books featured the mice of Brambly Hedge 
Royal Doulton first began producing Brambly Hedge Figurines in 1983.  They quickly became very popular and very collectible.
